How Hose Bridge Systems will Help Municipalities?

The safety of hoses temporarily passing through a street in a city can depend on whether hose bridge systems have been used. These devices cover the water lines that bring water from a hydrant or water truck to put out a fire and protect them from being crushed by traffic that move through the area where a fire is being fought. Hose systems are much like cable protectors, in that a durable polyurethane material can tolerate a large weight capacity without any pressure or stress on the cable or hose itself, and is easy to install and disassemble once used. Whether it is administrators at the fire department or the municipality itself that chooses to purchase the devices, it’s a good choice that protects the city or fire department from liability by using every attempt to put out a fire. It also reduces hose maintenance and replacement costs.

How Hose Bridge Systems Work

A hose system will replace wood and metal constructed bridges and they can last longer because they are relatively maintenance free and will never rot or rust. They are weather resistant and have an excellent traction system made up of a diamond plate tread. There are three parts to the 16″ wide product with a single tunnel modular cable hose bridge system. The tunnel has a ramp placed on each side of it so that autos and trucks can easily pass over it with the tires, preventing the crushing of the hose. Male and female parts fit together like a puzzle and they can then be pressed on with the foot for a strong connection. Because this system is modular it can be expanded to connect with one and two other hose lines at the same time. A tunnel connector can be inserted between two or three channels and the ramps for a smooth transition over multiple hoses. In case it is a small community with written paper instructions not available, the instructions on putting it together is imprinted on the device itself.

Hose Bridge System Guidelines

There are a few guidelines to follow when using hose systems:

• Check the area for hazards before installation and place on stable ground. When placed on a slippery, inclined or broken surface, the risk of injury increases.
• For temporary use only. The bottom side of the hose is exposed to the ground surface, so after some time, the hose can become damaged.
• Hose bridge systems should never be used as a work surface for cutting or drilling.
• Other structures such as ladders or scaffolds should not be placed on the devices.
• The system should be placed where there will only be high clearance vehicles present.
• When cleaning or storing, do not expose to chemicals, as polyurethane is attacked by some. If unsure, test a small portion of the device with it.
• Encourage slow traffic over the hose bridge systems.

If the municipality will be buying the hose bridge systems for the fire department and has them at their disposal, there is always the possibility that they can be utilized for other means such as electric or cable lines that must run across traffic areas. Community events such as carnivals, fairs and music events may be able to make use of the hose bridge systems for double usage.

What costs more; to build a cable car bridge or to build a road?

this is for my Humanities project; we are solving environmental issues in Dalat (Vietnam), and I chose the topic tourism. basically I think cable cars are better since there are less deforestation& pollution, also it’s original, which is more attractive for the tourists. However it is not for people scared of heights, and it’s slower than roads. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Not sure about the initial cost of construction, but it seems that the on going maintenance would be cheaper on the road than the cable car system.
